For many of us lockdown is a reality and for those coming out of lockdown we have the daunting task of trying to pick up the pieces and make a new life in a world of the coronavirus.

Unlike some rich European countries most of us did not benefit from job and wage security when the pandemic struck. I am sure that many of you are already feeling the pinch!

Now is the time to think out the box. The way we work & make money is probably going to change for many of us and so it may be time to asking a fundamental question.....

SELL USED ITEMS

Post your used goodies on websites like Craigslist, Ebay, Gumtree, free classifieds. Facebook Marketplace is a great place to sell things and its where my wife has made $100's selling things we no longer need as a family.

TUTOR ONLINE

Using Skype or Zoom you can teach online. Did you know that there are 1000’s of people stuck at home wanting to self-improve over this time. I have friends that are teaching English to people all around the world and half of them don't even have a TEFL certificate. You can teach anything online from how to play a musical instrument, how to craft, how to make a Face Mask right through to how to improve self-confidence & how to meditate. Once you’ve got an idea what you want to teach, prepare some guidelines for the course then advertise your course on social media and create a free Wix website for it, post it on forums and lists.

LIFTING & DELIVERIES

Have a car? Drive for Uber, Lyft . Now is a great time to be signing up to do deliveries - look at Uber Eats, Postmates, Shipt, Instacart and for the UK - Deliveroo . Think about it, people at high-risk are not wanting to leave their homes but still need help getting goods. Put out a local ad offering your services for older people or anyone who can't leave home.

FIVERR

Fiverr is an amazing website where freelancers and pretty much anyone with a talent can make a buck. Nothing is off the cards here from celebrity impersonating birthday wishes to creative digital skills. The great thing is that you don't have to charge $5 and can setup a variety of pricing extras and packages to give customers options.

A variety of other websites exist for freelancers with specific skills. I have a few friends that earn $1000's doing web design and IT work from across the world, working from the comfort of their home. Check out websites like Freelancer - Upwork, SolidGigs and People per hour

SOCIAL MEDIA CURATOR

Social Media is blowing up right now and a lot of brands are struggling to keep on top of it. What does it involve? Create content for a brand by taking images, coming up with engaging posts, auditing and responding to comments and basically growing the brand's social media following.

START A BLOG

Can you offer value to a reader in one of these ways: entertainment, solve a problem, education or inspiration. Bloggers make money by advertising with Google, affiliate links or with sponsored content. Sponsored content yields the most income and depending on your active and engaged subscribers and unique monthly visitors you could earn a good wage doing this. Learn how to be a Blog Influencer

You’ve got time right? Now’s the perfect time to write that novel or autobiography you’ve always wanted to write. So many people are stuck at home that can’t cook or bake but need to eat and are starting to get tired of junk food. Offer home cooked meals or baked goods for a fee. Set yourself apart from your competitors by offering specialized meals such as vegan, Ketogenic, low calorie and kosher meals.

Create products that are in need. Right now people are snapping up face masks and homemade hand sanitizer but use your imagination. You can sell your Crafts & Homemade goods - on Etzy, Zazzle and Threadless

Are you an animal lover? Become a Dog walker or start a mobile dog cleaning service.

Do you like children. Become a Babysitter or Nanny and help people get on with their work during isolation or take care of their kids when they go back to work. Think of some references you can use and maybe take a CPR/First Aid course to ensure you're super ready.

You can just imagine how messy some peoples homes will be during self isolation. Get your protective gear on and bring some order to their lives. Think about offering your services to offices and stores who will need to follow strict cleaning methods in the future and could use your help.

Got time? Online surveys are a great way to make some money from the comfort of your home. Most websites have a limited number of paid surveys each month so to ensure a decent living sign up to as many as you can. Many of these are International. PERSONAL TRAINING

If you’re experienced in any form of fitness or sports practice now is the time to share that experience with the rest of us couch potatoes. You don’t always need a qualification as general know-how can go a long way. You could train over Skype or Zoom or if you're able to meet them at a park or public area meet your clients there.

SELL YOUR PHOTOS

Stock photography websites like shutter stock and istock are a great place to sell your images. You could also approach brands or websites that may be interested in your work directly and offer them your images for use on their websites or social media at a reasonable fee per image.

Good at Writing? A lot of people will be looking for new jobs & setting up businesses. Help them out by writing resumes, proposals, promotional text for their websites and advertising.

HOUSESITTING

Need a Place to Live - cut your home loan or rent from your limited budget by becoming a house sitter. Many homeowners accept families as well.
