Most Daddy vloggers start out with an interest in capturing their children's development and family day-to-day lifestyle. With YouTube the opportunity to share your life and events with family, friends or maybe even perfect strangers has become increasingly popular and quite lucrative as well.
One of the Daddy Vlogger pioneers has got to be American Shay Carl Butler who started out in the old days YouTubers weren't even a thing yet. Shay Carl has 5 kids and together with his wife they've captured everyday life almost on a daily basis on their YouTube channel Shaytards. Their popularity has grown over the years to a point where they attracted 5 million subscribers. Shay started Maker Studios along with other YouTuber friends which was sold to The Walt Disney Company for $500 million on March 24, 2014. Shay Carl has a personal estimated wealth of $25 million.
Jonathan Saccone Joly
Across the pond in the U.K, Jonathan Saccone Joly, aged 39, won Celebrity Dad of the Year in 2019 beating the likes of Prince William in popularity. Anthony has 4 children and over 1.9 million subscribers on his YouTube channel called Sacconjoly's. He has been vlogging his family life since 2010 and captured their ups and downs sharing everything with the public.
Life in the public eye has come with tremendous reward and Anthony's personal wealth is estimated to be $1.8 million.
Whether you're just wanting to capture family memories, child's birth or first day at school or perhaps dabble in YouTube vlogging and supplement your family income with some ad revenue or sponsorships. One thing's for sure - you're going to need the right gear.
BEST DADDY VLOGGER TECH
DaDiDeal has compiled a list of Essential Daddy Vlogging Gear that all top vloggers are using:
BUDGET VLOG CAMERAS
Canon PowerShot Digital Camera [G7 X Mark II]
Just about every vlogger has used this camera. Super light, reliable and affordable. The 1.0-inch, 20.1 MP* CMOS sensor and DIGIC 7 Image Processor fuel a powerful camera while the lens features a bright aperture value of f/1.8–2.8 is perfect for vlogging and allows good lighting in most conditions. The Optical Zoom of 4.2x (24mm–100mm) is useful but travel vloggers may need a larger zoom. The high-resolution, 3.0” LCD monitor tilts up 180° and down 45°. The built-in stablizer is excellent & very important when vlogging on the move. This is a FullHD camera not a 4K. Canon has released the Mark III 4K this year but until firmware changes & reviews improve DaDiDeal will not recommend it.
DaDiDeal Insider Info ////// As great as this little camera is we found that after 2 years of use small dust particles entered the lens area visible when filming in sunlight. The camera's design does not warrant the cost of getting the dust removed. As great as these cameras are they do not have a particularly long lifespan for a daily vlogger, especially if taken outdoors
Panasonic LUMIX G7 4K
DSLR Digital Camera, with LUMIX G VARIO 14-42mm MEGA O.I.S. Lens, 16 Megapixel Mirrorless Camera, with a 3-Inch LCD which flips and rotates so you can see yourself as you vlog. More & more vloggers are filming in 4K which is 4X times the number of pixels than Full HD video, ensuring you capture every detail.
The Panasonic Image App connects by Wi-Fi to the camera and gives control over various functions via a smartphone or tablet device which come in handy if your filming alone.
Canon EOS 70D
The Digital SLR Camera with 18-55mm STM Lens is a vlogging staple and considered a medium cost camera. The Dual Pixel CMOS Auto Focus is great for fast pace vlogging where you don't need to worry about focusing the camera yourself as it tracks your face as you move. The Vari-angle LCD monitor allows the vlogger to flip the screen into various positions & reverse. The camera’s exposure settings, such as aperture, shutter speed and ISO, focus, and shutter can be operated wirelessly using an iOS or Android smartphone App. Compatible with Canon EF and EF-S lenses.
DaDiDeal Insider Info ////// This is an all-round great camera and at the cost which includes the 18-55mm lens an excellent option for all daddy vloggers. Vloggers may want to purchase the Canon EF-S 10-18mm f/4.5-5.6 IS STM lens which is more suited to vlogging. This camera requires stablization when moving as the built-in stabilizer on the lens is not powerful.
Sony a7R II
This Sony Full-Frame Mirrorless camera comes with interchangeable Sony 28-70mm F3.5-5.6 FE OSS lens. The Sony Alpha a7IIK has an in-body 5-axis image stabilization optimized for 42.4MP full-frame (35mm), 4K movie recording. This makes it perfect for vlogging & great for daddies doing some travel vlogging. The in-built stabilization. Subject tracking in the Auto Focus has been improved in this model. The camera makes use of the E-Mount lenses with many “movie-friendly” features.
