1. Eat Right
Certain foods contain vitamins and minerals that help promote facial hair growth:
Alfalfa Sprouts boost DHT levels and testosterone levels
Brazilian Nuts contain selenium which is used in hair growth.
Raisins contain the mineral boron which boost the synthesis of testosterone and DHT
Eggs contain Protein and fat but also the vitamin biotin which is important for hair growth
Oranges contain fructose that binds (SHBG) which allows more free-testosterone and free-DHT into the bloodstream
Fish particularly salmon and tun is high in Omega-3 fatty acids which prevents dry and brittle hair and fights hair loss.
Beef and other red meats increase testosterone levels.
2. Reduce Stress
Stress produces cortisol and weakens your immune system which can effect your testosterone levels. Some ways to reduce stress:
Exercise
Meditate
Take a Yoga class
Reduce caffeine intake
Smile and laugh more
Listen to soothing music
Practice deep breathing techniques
3. Be Patient
It will take at least 4 weeks to grow to a sufficient length before you can start grooming your beard. Do not trim your beard too early, allow sufficient growth. Some of the best beards you see have taken many months and sometimes years to get there.
4. Drink Water
Staying hydrated improves your blood circulation, body nutrients and you bodies natural temperature. Blood circulation helps your skin stay hydrated and assists hair growth by getting important nutrients to through the blood to your skin which is the largest organ of the body.
5. Exfoliate your Face
Dead skin cells can clog up hair follicles making it harder for your beard to grow. Develop a skincare regimen (see DaDiDeal Skincare review here) each day that includes exfoliating your facial and neck skin to remove dry, flaking and dead cells.
6. Get enough Sleep
Apart from alleviating stress sleep plays an important role in beard growth as facial hair grows faster when resting probably due to a boosted immune system, human growth hormone release and an increase in dihydroxytestosterone. Studies have shown that men that were sleep deprived decreased facial hair growth by 19%.
7. Use Beard Shampoo & Conditioner
Many men make the mistake of using normal hair shampoo and conditioner on their beards. One has to consider that the hair on on your face is considerably different than the hair on your head and cannot be cleaned and conditioned the same. The major factor is chemicals. Scalp/head hair products contain a large amount of chemicals that are harmful for facial hair and your skin. Beard shampoos don't strip all the oils from the pores and allow just the right amount of sebum to grow healthy facial hair. Beard products are often natural ingredients and often contain anti-inflammatory, antiviral, and anti-bacterial elements.
8. Use Beard Oil
Beard oils contain a blend of carrier and essential oils which hydrate and moisturize your skin and hair follicles. The more your facial hair grows the more oil it needs and it cannot get enough naturally produced oil from the hair follicle which is why it is so important to supplement the supply with quality, natural ingredient beard oil. This will help your beard look healthy, somewhat shiny and not dry, brittle and skin underneath flaky.
9. Use a Beard Balm
Beard balms are used to style a beard and moustache and act as a good conditioner and moisturizer for your beard. Beard balm is different to Beard Oil and should be used as well as a Beard Oil. You should try to avoid beard balms that contain synthetic sealants like petroleum jelly as they may irritate your skin and damage your beard.
10. Brush your Beard
Brushing helps to stimulate hair follicles which in turn help your beard grow. Brushing also helps train your beard follicles to grow in a certain direction. Bristle brushes help to keep your beard clean and remove dirt. Do not use regular combs and brushes to brush your beard. His a comb, preferably wooden, for thicker, longer beards and bristle brushes for finer beards. To avoid tangles apply your balm, oil or conditioner before brushing your beard.
Start by combing your beard from the bottom of your neck up towards your cheeks and outward. After you've brushed upwards you can begin to brush down and style it as you prefer. Don't brush too forcefully or too often as you don't want to break and loose more hair then you need to.
